Perimenopause Headaches & Migraines Issue #2

You're Not Imagining It!

For those of us prone to migraines, fluctuating hormones can make the week feel like a minefield. Here are some practical tips to help us manage and minimize the impact: ✅ Headache & Migraine Management Tips:

  • 💧 Stay Hydrated – Dehydration is a common trigger. Keep that water bottle handy!

  • Watch What You Eat (and Don’t Skip Meals) – Certain foods and drinks can trigger migraines. And yes, skipping meals can also bring on those nasty headaches.

  • 🧘 Avoid Common Triggers – Pay attention to stress, sleep patterns, and strong scents—whatever tends to set off your headaches. Keep a little log if you can!

  • 💊 Medicate Early – Seriously, don’t wait! Treat at the very first sign of a headache.

    • If you suspect it’s a migraine, take your prescribed medication promptly. Think of it like building a dam early, rather than trying to stop a waterfall.

    • If it's another type of headache (like tension or stress-related), try your go-to over-the-counter pain reliever:

      • Naproxen (like Aleve)

      • Ibuprofen (like Motrin)

      • Acetaminophen (like Tylenol)

  • 📅 Frequent Migraines? Talk to Your Doctor – If you're experiencing 4 or more migraines per month, it's definitely time to chat with your healthcare provider about preventive (prophylactic) treatment options. You deserve relief!
